Adopt Trinity!
Trinity and her brother, Logan, are Western cougars from southeast Idaho. They were discovered orphaned, roaming around a neighborhood in Idaho’s Franklin County. For several days, witnesses observed the duo wander through yards and onto people’s porches with no sign of their mother. Idaho Fish and Game caught them up on Jan. 10, 2016, and estimated they were around four to five months of age.
Trinity and Logan were very thin and far too young to remain in the wild on their own; they would not have survived. Some of Grandfather Mountain’s habitat staff flew in a private plane owned and piloted by Bob Wilson, an area resident and generous benefactor to Grandfather Mountain, and landed in Logan, Utah. Then they traveled into Preston, Idaho, to pick them up. Trinity was named after a nearby mountain, and Logan was named after the town in which the habitat keepers landed.
They arrived at Grandfather Mountain on March 4, 2016. At first, they were kept in the park’s quarantine facility, which includes outdoor yards for its temporary residents to get plenty of sunshine and fresh air. They would remain there until all the construction of the new cougar house and elk habitat was completed.
Trinity and Logan grew up together and get along great. They love to snuggle up together and groom each other. Occasionally, while grooming and cuddling, they can be heard purring. Cougars are the largest cats that can purr. Larger felines, like lions, can roar and chuff but are not able to purr. Trinity is very distinguishable from her brother, Logan. She is quite a bit smaller, weighing almost 100 pounds. She is darker in color and has a darker nose.
