Group Venues Grandfather

Group Venues

Families, friends, colleagues — get-togethers are always amazing on Grandfather Mountain. Against a backdrop of never-ending scenery, your group can play, mingle and reconnect in a place they’ll never forget.

Groups are welcome to bring in their own food, or menu items from Mildred’s Grill can be packaged to-go if arranged in advance with the Group Tour Coordinator at (828) 733-2013 or nature@grandfather.com.

Mildred’s Grill Sunroom: With lovely views and a convenient location inside the Wilson Center for Nature Discovery, this sunroom seats approximately 50 people. Contact the Group Tour Coordinator at (828) 733-2013 or nature@grandfather.com for pricing, scheduling and details.

Woods Walk Picnic Area: This large picnic area is located on the lower portion of Grandfather Mountain, just up the main road from Half Moon Overlook. With numerous picnic tables and grills scattered throughout the area, it’s near the Woods Walk Nature Trail, a leisurely 4/10-mile loop through mature Appalachian forest. This picnic area is first come, first served: it cannot be reserved in advance. Read more.

Cliffside Picnic Area: This scenic overlook with rocky outcroppings and long-range views is located off the main attraction road, just above Forrest Gump Curve. The space includes picnic table seating for approximately 18 people, with charcoal park grills. This picnic area is first come, first served: it cannot be reserved in advance. Find more availability during morning hours and midweek. Read more about picnics.

MacRae Meadows (Temporarily unavailable): This large grassy area at the base of Grandfather Mountain is used for the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, but it can also host a large special event, family reunion, corporate picnic or wedding. You’ll have access to the meadow area, plus the space across from the Meadows on U.S. 221, and ample space for parking. Alcohol is not permitted, and the rental is for the property only: amenities are not included. Event participants must depart before sundown, and event insurance is required. Contact the Group Tour Coordinator at (828) 733-2013 or nature@grandfather.com for pricing, scheduling and details. You can also schedule an appointment to tour the property.

Weddings: A small ceremony on Grandfather Mountain will delight your guests and fill your special day with the awe and splendor of this majestic mountain. Read more.

Shuttle Service: Because sharp curves near the top of the mountain restrict large vehicles to the lower part of the mountain, Grandfather provides free shuttle service to the top in its own buses. Reservations for the shuttle buses are required. Motor coaches or buses longer than 28 feet are not allowed in the park without prior reservation. No exceptions will be made. Read more.
