Fall color begins to burst near Stack Rock Creek, near milepost 304 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Although much of the High Country remains green, isolated ridges along the Parkway are starting to showcase autumn’s hues. According to Dr. Howie Neufeld, professor of biology at Appalachian State University and “Fall Color Guy,” individual trees, such as maples, birches and cherries, are starting to follow suit, while sourwoods appear to be peaking this week.
