You’ve heard what the woolly worms and weather forecasters have to say about the winter weather prognosis — now it’s your turn.
For the ninth consecutive year, Grandfather Mountain is offering its Winter Weather Contest. The best guesser will win a day pass for six to Grandfather Mountain with lunch included at Mildred’s Grill!
The Winter Weather Contest asks participants to answer 10 questions and a tiebreaker related to snowfall, temperature and wind that the Mountain will experience between Nov. 15, 2014, and April 15, 2015.
“Grandfather Mountain is known for its serene beauty and extreme conditions in winter, so the contest is a great way to share the excitement of this season,” said public relations specialist Kellen Short.
The contest questionnaire is now online at grandfathermtn-staging.v38mw8dg-liquidwebsites.com/plan-your-visit/events/winter-weather-contest/ and must be completed before midnight Nov. 14. Limit one entry per person.
Grandfather Mountain is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily throughout winter, weather-permitting, except Thanksgiving and Christmas. In snowy or icy weather, park opening is delayed until the road and paths can be cleared, but a call to the Entrance Gate at (828) 733-4337 can confirm the day’s conditions and accessibility.
Those who want to experience the winter weather firsthand can consider the Secret Season Pass, which provides unlimited admission from Nov. 1 through April 30 for a bargain price. Adult passes are just $32 (plus tax), and child passes are $19 (plus tax), while group passes (passholder plus up to five guests) are $90 (plus tax).
