Yonahlossee, one of Grandfather Mountain’s resident black bears, cools off in her pond, while enjoying a close-up view of some already fallen fall color.

Fall color descends the slopes of Grandfather Mountain, as seen from the Top Shop parking lot near the Mile High Swinging Bridge. Although fall color is currently peaking in the WNC High Country, Grandfather Mountain’s higher elevation allows spectators to see the color spread through the area’s lower elevations.
