Autumn color reflects radiantly on Bass Lake, part of the Moses Cone Estate in Blowing Rock, NC. Color remains spotty on most of the landscape but progression can be spotted almost daily now. (Photo by Skip Sickler)
The shrubs located above 5,000 feet on Grandfather Mountain, including blueberry bushes and witch-hazel, are bright with color right now. More widespread color will appear on the Mountain within the next week. Other high elevations in the area like Mount Mitchell are also reporting “patchy” color. The color is really starting to pick up on the Roan Highlands at the North Carolina – Tennessee state line with elevations from approximately 5,800 feet to 6,100 feet.
