WINTER BRINGS A DIFFERENT HABITAT FOR ANIMALS AND STAFF

Just as climate preferences differ among people, some of the animals in the Grandfather Mountain Animal Habitats enjoy the winter months, others do not.  The river otters love the snow, especially the habitats’ newest member, Luna.  They slide on their bellies all around the enclosure, swim under the ice and have an all-around good time.

Nikita the cougar is not fond of snow.  She avoids putting her pads directly on the snow-covered ground at all costs, choosing instead to wait out the weather in her den.  Aspen, another cougar and fellow resident of the Grandfather Mountain cougar enclosure, doesn’t mind getting his paws a little snowy.  Often, Nikita will walk in Aspen’s footprints to avoid touching the snow.
