Grandfather Mountain is a bit less magical since the
passing of Martha Oberhelman on June 22nd. Personifying
service to our customers at Grandfather Mountain,
Martha manned the Bear Hut for 27 years and will forever
be remembered as the lady who charmed the birds out
of the trees and coaxed chipmunks to eat from her
hand.
Hard Work Is Returning The Profile Trail to Former
Glory 
In
its ever-ending quest to learn more about the web
of life in the Tarheel state, the North Carolina Wildlife
Resources Commission came to the Mountain last month
to see what small mammals might be in residence on
Grandfather's slopes. Among the many interesting species
they discovered were the star-nosed mole and the hoary
bat.
