Gray’s Lily
(Lilium grayi)
Single stems 18-36 inches have several whorls of 2-3 inch long lanceolate leaves. Atop each stem, 1-4 long stalks will bear one slightly nodding flower about 2 1/2 inches long. Also called the orange-bell lily, the flowers are not strongly flared or reflexed.
A rare native perennial of the Alleghenies, Gray’s Lily is found in meadows and on balds in only a few of the Northwestern NC counties. June-July.
