Squirrel Corn

(Dicentra canadensis)

Flowers hang upside down on a 6 to 8 inch arching stem; two short, rounded spurs hang down. Heart-shaped, 1/2 inch long flowers are white to very pale pink. The roots of this low, native perennial form small, round, yellow tubors.

A northeastern plant, Squirrel Corm is found on moist slopes and wooded coves. April-May.

  • My husband, myself and our 6 year old daughter went to Grandfather Mountain, and we hiked up the mountain instead of driving. We had a blast. It is so beautiful there, we are planning to go back. I recommend it to everyone.
