in budThis annual wildflower is native to four western NC counties and grows in showy masses along stream banks and in low woodlands.

The most spectacular show of fringed phacelia on Grandfather can be seen along the banks of the Watauga River at the head of the Profile Trail (one quarter mile north of the intersection of NC Highways 105 and 184) in late April or early May.

  • We had a wonderful day although it was rainy we still enjoyed ourselves, the kids loved it!!  The spiced cider in the fudge shop was the best. Thanks for a memorable day that will be talked about for a while to come.
